Staff Care and Community
 
Newington College aims to ensure staff care programs address the significant demands on the modern teaching professional. There is a Staff Care Committee and Women’s Group that incorporate staff care and well being. This year we have a Staff Health Awareness Week where a number of activities are organised for staff to participate. Including a quick health check and guest speakers from the local community. The Newington Community spirit goes beyond the workplace, recently members of the community participated in the Blackmores run – getting fit while also raising money for Salvos Oasis Youth Support Network. Newington also has a Health Plan that has a great discount on health cover. Staff are encouraged to use the fitness facilities at the College including heated indoor swimming pool, tennis courts and weights room during supervised opening hours. There are fitness and yoga classes that staff can also participate. The employee assistance program is a confidential, free of charge professional counselling service for work related problems. This is service is provided by external, registered psychologists with clinical experience. There is always something interesting and exciting happening at the College that staff can join in and get a piece of the Newington action!

Professional Development
 
At Newington College we believe that all staff members play a critical role in assisting the College to achieve our goals. A strategic intent has been designed to meet our future goals, and each year we set specific objectives in accordance with that plan. These objectives are shared with all staff via the annual report for the previous year – this includes objectives for the year ahead. Our teaching staff play a critical role in the success of our students, our school and our wider community. For this reason the Performance & Development Framework for teaching staff is built on a foundation of professional development and reflection that encourages and enhances professional growth. The non-teaching staff play a critical role in the success of the College and the wider community. The Performance and Development process has been developed to recognise the achievements of staff and provide a platform for the development of goals and continued professional development.
